It is a useful article Kerrie, and I agree that many people will be swayed by the other attributes and uses of the ipad over the kindle. Although the larger size kindle is attractive. In terms of value for money, unless you are very limited in budget most people could lean towards the ipad i think

At technology has infiltrated all facets of the world in which we live in, it is a communication tool in many areas. I personally utilise email and for my social networking purposes, use facebook. Email is more personal while facebook maintains an "on-mass" approach to communication.

"I have previously taught in a classroom where different calculators were the norm and in some lessons teaching and learning took second place to showing all the different calculator methods" - And therein lies the problem. Loads of learning time wasted with teachers and students getting their heads around the different technolgies and devices. Also plain old fashioned security - few kids will steal a textbook, it has limited use and appeal outside the classroom, but a large number of Ipads in one location must be very rich pickings indeed criminal dealers. My kids have all had pencil case contents stolen and lost the occasional text book, annoying but not as financially crippling as having to replace e-book readers, kindles, ipads and the like.

My son's kindy does use a camera now to show the mums what went on that day. I had a play with a flip and they are an excellent small camera for point and shoot, however I chose to buy the JVC version as it has a larger view image is HD and was cheaper.
